What is Root Canal Treatment?

The removal of infected or inflamed tissues. The root canals are cleaned followed by shaping and sealed with a biocompatible material to ensure complete sealing of the canals.

When is Root Canal Treatment Needed?

Root canal treatment is needed when the pulp is inflamed or infected. It is due to deep decay, an extensive restoration that involves the pulp, cracked or fractured tooth due to trauma, excessive wear of enamel and dentine exposing the pulp. Sometimes as a result of severe gum disease.

Signs of pulp damage may include pain, prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold, discolouration of the tooth, swelling, tenderness of the overlying gums or a bad taste in the mouth and etc.

Post Treatment Instruction

  • After root canal treatment is done, pain and discomfort on the tooth can experienced for about a week
  • Avoid chewing or biting on the tooth
  • Tooth sensitivity on the treated tooth can last for a week to about 6 months
  • If reinfection occurs, book an appointment for the dentist to examine the condition
